The End of the Trail

by Grace George — Categories: UncategorizedNo Comments

Pack 107′s popcorn fundraiser draws to a close this weekend.  We know many of you worked hard to sell popcorn that will help our pack in the coming year. Big thanks to all who sold, parents who helped, customers who made purchases and to our Popcorn Kernels, Holly and Adrien Paquin for their dedication and determination to make this the best sale ever!

Here’s what you need to know:

October 30th~  Selling ends.  All scout order forms are due, as well as all unsold popcorn and money from sold popcorn from Show and Deliver and from Show and Sell.  Please turn in orders, checks, and unsold popcorn at the Paquin’s house, (6803 Flick Drive),  on Saturday from 10-5, or Sunday from 1-5.  All unsold popcorn MUST be turned in this weekend, as it needs to be delivered to Camp Belzer on Tuesday.  Make sure all checks are made out to Pack 107, have scouts name on them, and all cash converted to a check.  You can also turn in checks you may have already collected when taking orders.

November 19th~ Popcorn for the Take Orders will be ready for pickup at the Paquin’s.  Scouts will then deliver popcorn and collect payments.

December 2~  All money from Take Orders is due at the Paquin’s.

If you have any questions, please contact one of the Kernels at 881-4823

Den One ROCKS!

by Grace George — Categories: UncategorizedNo Comments

On Saturday, October 22, four of the scouts from Den One made their way to the Indiana State Museum to attend GeoFest.  GeoFest is an annual event at the museum, which highlights hands-on activities focusing on rocks, minerals and fossils.  There are also geologic-related games, with geo-prizes, and plenty of experts around to answer the boys’ questions. They left the museum with lots of rocks and fossil samples.   Not only did this group of scouts have a blast, they also met the requirements for the Webelos Geologist Activity Badge!  Here are pictures of the scouts, rocking it out:

Such a Treat!

by Grace George — Categories: UncategorizedNo Comments

We had a blast at the Ghost Town Trunk or Treat last weekend!  Huge thanks to the many volunteers and participants for another successful event!

I’m still waiting for some pictures to appear in my inbox, (hint, hint), which I will post as soon as they’re available.  Meanwhile, let’s congratulate the winners of this year’s contests!

Spookiest Costume Award:  Zeb Butler

Prettiest Costume Award:  Macie Isaacs

Most Original Costume Award:  Levi Delk

Best Ghost Town Themed Costume Award:  Ben Kleinschmidt

Spookiest Car Award:  Hannah Family

Most Original Car Award:  Luther Family

Best Ghost Town Themed Car Award:  Limbrock Family

A lot of time and talent went into making these costumes and cars stand out.  Thanks for Doing Your Best and congratulations to all the winners!

Edited to add:  Someone pointed out that I didn’t include all of the awards in this post.  Frankly, I was a bit embarrassed to list the winners of the adult costume awards, because I was in that group.  I felt awkward accepting the award that night, because I was the co-chairman of the event, and didn’t think I should be eligible to win, but Shelly Wynn insisted on this, and that woman just won’t take “no” for an answer.

So, congratulations to these winners, as well:

Best Couple Costume Award:  Wayne and Michelle Evans  (Michelle responded, saying, “but we’re from different time periods!”  We said, “that’s what made it so great!”)

Hunkiest Costume Award:  Scott Isaacs (The last time Scott heard the word “hunk” was in 1984, but wasn’t rocking such a fine ‘stache then.)

Sassiest Costume Award:  Grace George  (Editor’s Note: This made me blush.  Not that you could tell.)

Trunk or Treat Time!

by Grace George — Categories: UncategorizedNo Comments

A few reminders to parents, den leaders and scouts for this year’s Trunk or Treat.  Please note the date and location of this year’s event.  Other things to remember:

~ There will be a costume parade with judging for prizes shortly after opening announcements.  We encourage parents to dress up, as well.  Wear a costume or western gear!  After the parade, we will divide the pack into four groups, and the leaders will be given instructions on where to take their group.  You will be rotating to four areas throughout the evening before we back inside the church for awards.  After the awards, everyone will move to the designated parking lot for Trunk or Treating.

~For parents wanting to participate in the Trunk or Treat, please decorate your car.  The boys love seeing the cars all decked out!  You should have at least 150 pieces of candy to assure each child gets one.  In the past, some children haven’t gotten candy, due to shortage.  We recommend you give only one piece per child.  The cars will be judges, and some prizes will be awarded.  Trunk or Treat will take place at the end of the evening, after 8:00.  There will be designated parking for participants~ please follow instructions of the parking supervisors when you arrive.

~We encourage everyone to dress appropriately for the weather.  It will be warm inside, but cool to cold outside that evening.  Please check the weather before getting ready.   Most of the evening will be spent OUTSIDE.  In case of rain, we will postpone the event until Tuesday, October 18th, and have it at Southeastway Park from 6:30-8:30.

~Bring the siblings and a flashlight and we’ll see you there!

Responsibility

by Grace George — Categories: UncategorizedNo Comments

October’s Core Value is Responsibility.  To Scouts, this means fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves.

We must remember to help others and take care of ourselves, while behaving safely and appropriately without having to be told.

There are many ways Cub Scouts can learn and practice responsibility.   This is an excellent time to earn the Citizenship belt loop, to learn about fire safety for Fire Safety Awareness month, or to create a responsibility chart for Scouts to use at home.

Our pack has been given the opportunity to help others in the community this weekend.  It’s short notice, because I just received this, but if you could give any time to help, I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated.

Our neighborhood, Smithfield, is doing a tree planting on Oct 15th 9am-noon and I was wondering if our pack would be interested in doing a community service project by helping to plant a few trees.  Professionals will be there to help with instructions.  Lunch will be provided after the planting.  Just a thought…  Let me know if you are interested as we must plan for lunch numbers.
Thanks,
